MAJOR festival alert! DJ Khaled brought an all-star party to the desert while making his Coachella debut on Sunday (Apr. 16).
The super-producer delivered a star-studded set in the Sahara Tent shortly before Kendrick Lamar came through to close things out. For his part, Khaled kicked things off with a statement before launching into “All I Do Is Win.”
“After I get done with this show tonight, they gon’ have to make me headline next year,” he said. “We changing the headlines tonight. It’s gonna say, ‘DJ Khaled Takes Coachella.'”
From there, the Snapchat King ran around the stage, demanding hands be raised for his medley of tracks, which included “I’m On One,” “Shining,” and “I Got the Keys.” It was enough to make him stop to marvel at his discography. “I got so many hit records,” he added. “I got so many surprises.”
He wasn’t lying about those tricks of his sleeve. The first surprise came by way of A$AP Ferg, who performed the animated mini-set of “Work,” “New Level,” and “Shabba.” Then came 2 Chainz for “All Me,” “No Problem,” “Big Amount,” “Good Drank,” and “Watch Out.”
Longtime collaborator French Montana also emerged with “All the Way Up,” and then was joined by Swae Lee for their latest smash, “Unforgettable.” Making their fourth appearance of the weekend, Migos also showed up for “Bad and Boujee” and “T-Shirt.”
Finally, the set ended with Maybach Music Group. Wale joined the stage for “No Hands,” while Rick Ross ran through hits like “Hustlin’,” “Trap, Trap, Trap,” and “Ima Boss” to close things out.
According to reports, Khaled’s set was cut short due to timing issues, but even with that, he pulled off a star-studded show. Next week, he’ll have another shot at this — and likely, even more surprises — during Weekend 2.
