Rise up. After giving birth to her first child last year, Melanie Fiona returns with an acoustic cover of Joey Bada$$’ “Land of the Free.” With a guitarist by her side, the R&B songstress performed a mash-up of the All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ single mixed with “Ay Yo” off her 2009 album The Bridge.

“Everything I do or say today that’s worthwhile,” sings the new mom. “Will for sure inspire action in my first child / And I say ay yo, rise up, let me see your head high.”

“Music with a message is always necessary,” explained Melanie. “In these divided times, use your voice for good.”

This isn’t the first time the Grammy winner has covered a rap song. In the past, she also flipped Drake’s “Started From the Bottom,” Kanye West’s “Heartless,” and The Notorious B.I.G.’s “One More Chance / Stay With Me (Remix).”

Fiona and her boyfriend Jared Cotter welcomed their baby boy Cameron Lincoln in March of last year.
