Free smoke, free smoke. Fresh off his Beanie Sigel-assisted video for “The Real Is Back,” Dave East takes on Drake. Inspired by More Life’s opening track, the Def Jam/Mass Appeal MC unleashes a freestyle that references everything from LeBron James’ looks and Rick Ross’ Birdman beef to “Love & Hip Hop’s” financial pull and President Donald Trump.
Over the Boi-1da-produced instrumental, East rhymes about his affiliates and their criminal tendencies. “All my ni**as raise the crime rate,” he raps. “It’s getting ugly like LeBron face / Never seen it coming, that’s a blind date.”
Then, he turns to Rozay’s Birdman feud. “Ross got the hardest album out,” he rhymes. “Wonder what’s gon’ happen when he see Baby.”
True to the free-flowing format, East jumps from topic to topic. From there, he reveals his bedroom soundtrack while plugging underwear. “Never claimed to be a legend in this rap game / I just let the people say it / I fuck your bitch with Tory Lanez on / Only Ethika, no Hanes on.”
Finally, he drops advice to fellow MCs (“If you rappin’, just be careful who you fuckin’, they gon’ run to ‘Love & Hip Hop.’ Mona [Scott] givin’ out checks”) and he even gets political (“Trump never needed votes / Brand new Beretta, I’ma need a scope”).
Dave’s latest “Eastmix” follows his recent take on The Weeknd’s “Party Monster.” Both tracks are warm-ups for the New York rapper’s forthcoming Paranoia project.
