Mary J. Blige keeps her divorce in the equation on “U + Me (Love Lesson),” the latest single from her forthcoming album, Strength of a Woman.

On the breakup anthem, Mary reflects on the end of her relationship. “The lies you told to me make it easy for me to leave,” she sings. “You plus me wasn’t the best thing.”

“U + Me” carries some of the same themes discussed on “Thick of It.” Upon its release, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul explained how the end of her 12-year marriage to Martin “Kendu” Isaacs impacted her music.

“If you know me, you know what I’m dealing with right now,” she said. “The ‘Thick of It’ is the divorce and all this stuff that’s going on right now. It’s the heaviness of it and the whole thing…That’s where I am. I’m in the middle of a divorce and it doesn’t feel good. It feels terrible, but I have strength to get through and I get through by any means necessary.”

Strength of a Woman is due this year. Listen to “U + Me (Love Lesson)” below.
