M.I.A. is coming back with “P.O.W.A.”
Five months after dropping her fifth and reported final album AIM, the genre-bending superstar debuts the colorful self-directed video for “P.O.W.A.”
Laying on a bed of roses, M.I.A. opens the clip on the back of a truck, riding across gorgeous landscapes. Later, Jabbawockee-like dancers show off synchronized moves, while the British songstress asserts herself.
“I’m no Rihanna, I’m no Madonna,” she sings. “I’m no Mariah or Ariana / I’ve been around in this world causing drama / The real Spice Girl, hot girl power.”
Originally, “P.O.W.A.” was set to be released as a free track for fans, but two days ago, there was a change of plans. “i just got a call from the label saying they are willing to support M.I.A. P.O.W.A. through VEVO and release it on iTunes OFFICIALLY,” she wrote. “This means P.O.W.A. will be delayed by a few days rather than a few months. Otherwise i risk them pulling my video off youtube.”
