Just one day after celebrating “NYC” with Jadakiss, Faith Evans heads to the West Coast with Snoop Dogg for “When We Party,” another single from her Notorious B.I.G. joint project, The King & I.
Repurposing Biggie’s Golden State anthem “Going Back to Cali,” Faith adds her flare to a new beat with a SoCal bounce. “When we party on the West Coast,” she sings. “Drinkin’ and smokin’ all night long.”
Blending with B.I.G.’s classic verses, Tha Doggfather comes through with his Long Beach flavor. “Y’all know I’m from the West,” he raps. “I’m the King, to be exact.”
The Notorious B.I.G. and Tha D-O-Double-G had an interesting relationship. On “Somebody’s Gotta Die” off Life After Death, Biggie rapped about “dreamin’ about…how to sell records like Snoop,” showing some camaraderie with him despite a feud with Tupac.
In a 2013 interview with “Sway in the Morning,” Snoop opened up about their bond. “Biggie was my homeboy,” he said. “He was a real, real friend of mine.” However, the two were eventually caught in the midst of the ‘Pac feud.
After Tupac Shakur’s death in 1996, Snoop said he spoke with Biggie about their relationship. “We kicked it for about an hour,” Snoop added. “He was like, ‘I love ‘Pac.’ We just had an intimate conversation about how he never hated Tupac, how he loved Tupac…That was the last time I seen him.” Biggie died in an unsolved shooting in 1997.
“NYC” and “When We Party” are slated to appear on The King & I, a joint project featuring Faith Evans and her late husband, Biggie.
