Drizzy paid homage to Juelz Santana on last year’s “Hype.” Now, the Dipset MC returns the favor with “Drake Voice.”
Sampling the 6 God’s “Hype” vocals, along with some Juelz references by Young Thug and Kodak Black, Santana explains how the Jahlil Beats-produced track came to be.
“Feel like Juelz Santana, leg hanging out the Phantom,” he raps. “Aw, wait, who the fuck I think I’m fooling? I just feel like my damn self / Called Jahlil up, told him sample Drake’s voice and make that my anthem.”
“Drake Voice” comes shortly after “Santana Bandana,” which also referenced Drake’s “Hype” line: “Been on my grizzly / Leg hangin’ out the Phantom, you heard Drizzy.”
2017 might be a busy year for the Diplomat-turned-“Love & Hip Hop” star, who hasn’t released an official album since 2005’s What the Game’s Been Missing! Early today (Jan. 10), he announced that he was also in the studio with Jim Jones.
In November, Santana explained why his brotherhood with Jimmy will remain intact, even if Jones has beef with others like Cam’ron. “We still brothers, we gonna be brothers,” he told VH1. “It’s like the Diplomats I got three older brothers Jim, Cam, and Zeke. You know we go through stuff. Our bond made us a family.”
