Lloyd keeps it Tru with the release of his long-awaited EP, out today (Dec. 9).
The five-track project is built around the candid title track and marks a resurgence for the R&B crooner, who hasn’t released an album since 2011’s King of Hearts.
“I lost it all,” he says on the intro. “But in life there’s always a chance to grow from the struggle, from the pain, from the realness. Here’s my story.”
For his comeback, Lloyd is joined by some familiar faces. Rick Ross guests on “Heavenly Body,” Lil Wayne pops up on “Holding,” and 2 Chainz lends a hand on the “Tru (Remix).”
Lloyd appears nude on the cover art, which is symbolic of the album’s honest perspective.
“It was really more of an introspective thing,” he told Complex. “Although what you see on the outside is a guy who is apparently balls-to-the-wall naked in the woods near a waterfall, it’s really a moment for me to conquer all the fears that I might have had. All the inhibitions, the insecurities that usually exist in a person; to me it’s no exception. Insecurities of the body, being free in a public place.”
