Meet Jean, Wyclef Jean. The Fugees frontman works as a secret agent in the cinematic video for his Young Thug-assisted single “I Swear.”
With Kid Art in the director’s chair, “I Swear” features Clef as an agent tasked with saving Thugger’s fiancée Jerrika Karlae. In between martial arts acrobatics on the beach, he and Thug rock out in a Mars-like setting.
“My experience on the ‘I Swear’ video was crazy with sandstorm and the ledge, and Wyclef teaching me how to play guitar,” Thug told Billboard. “The whole thing was very, very good for my first time — it was the best time of my life.”
Karlae also had a blast, calling it “truly an amazing experience.”
“I Swear” is a single off Wyclef’s upcoming EP J’ouvert that took form after the pair’s “Kanye West” collaboration off JEFFERY.
“I felt ‘I Swear’ would be a great way for us to do something different, something fresh and new,” he explained. “We mixed 1997 with 2017. I call it ‘over turn’ — that’s when the ‘turn up’ is on overdrive.”
Clef has big plans for 2017. Not only will he release J’ouvert on Jan. 27, he is also gearing up for Carnival III: The Road to Clefication next year, 20 years after the original Carnival.
