Starboy shines at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Selling 348,000 equivalent album units (209,000 traditional), The Weeknd scores the third-largest opening week of the year, following Drake’s Views, which sold 1.04 million units, and Beyoncé’s LEMONADE, which earned 653,000.
Starboy is a streaming giant. Its opening streaming equivalent album units tally was 117,000, equating to about 175.2 million streams of Starboy tracks for the week. That’s the second-biggest figure of the year behind Drake’s 163,000, which equaled 245.1 million streams of album tracks in its opening week.
Starboy arrived on Nov. 25 as a stream with physical copies dropping Nov. 28. It’s the Canadian crooner’s second back-to-back No. 1 after last year’s Beauty Behind the Madness, which opened with 412,000 equivalent album units.
Elsewhere on the chart, Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic falls 2-4 in its second week (73,000), while the Broadway cast of Hamilton dips 9-10 with 34,000.
