With her mentor DJ Mustard on the beat, Ella Mai unleashes the music video for “10,000 Hours” off her forthcoming EP, CHANGE.
In the clip, the London-born songstress finds herself sitting by a piano, reflecting on her relationship’s trials and tribulations. “Why you always take so long to call me?” she asks. “Know I gotta wake up in the morning / You know every second adds up to a minute / We need 10,000 hours / We can be so in love.”
Meanwhile, her leading man appears and disappears while she sings about their potential. “I’m right where I belong,” she confides. “We’re only getting stronger.”
The song is based on Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers. “In the book…Gladwell says you need to do something for 10,000 hours in order to have it down pat,” explains Ella. “My song applies that same theory to love.”
CHANGE follows the 10 Summers signee’s previous EP Time and features songs about “newfound love, new emotions, and new experiences.”
“It’s about finding someone new,” she adds. “And knowing how to appreciate what he’s giving you in comparison to what you were dealing with.”
The five-track EP is due Friday (Nov. 18). Check out the tracklisting below.
