E-40 is a “Savage” in the video for the Jazze Pha and B-Legit-assisted single off his new album, The D-Boy Diary Book 1 & Book 2.
The uptempo track allows 40 Water to rhyme about his rise to success and his ability to remain on top. “I was born with a rusty spoon,” rhymes 40 Water. “Now, I’m a tycoon / I’ve been drinking all afternoon / Ain’t fina stop no time soon.”
But it also brings the Bay Area Ambassador back to what he feels is the origin of a slang term.
“The first time the word savage was ever said in the way we are saying it now that I recall, was 1989 in a song by E-40 called Mr. Flamboyant,” Fonzarelli explained. “I said, ‘Become a savage / Get swole boat ones / 20-inch arms establish / One-hitter quitters / The whole get down / Now run up on me now.’ I keep it original and relevant mane.”
The D-Boy Diary Book 1 & Book 2 is set to drop Nov. 18 with appearances by Gucci Mane, Lil B, G-Eazy, Nef the Pharaoh, Jay Rock, Kid Ink, Casey Veggies, and more.
