Just days before her new album HERE arrives on Nov. 4, Alicia Keys takes fans into her “Empire State of Mind” with the 23-minute short film The Gospel.
Broken into black-and-white vignettes, the film is seeping with New York imagery, emotion, and personality.
“This is my New York,” says Keys. “These buildings, these hallways, these conversations, they raised me. So much wisdom. So much pain.”
Speaking of wisdom, the film has various bits of knowledge as different people share what they wish they’d been told as children.
Songs from HERE like “She Don’t Really Care” work as the soundtrack for the visual and Keys appears in the short as well. It was written and directed by A.V. Rockwell while Alicia worked as its executive producer along with Erika Rose Santoro, Robin Frank, and Lucy Sumner.
The Gospel, which is also the title of the second song on HERE, premiered earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival and is now available to stream.
