Ab-Soul turns into the Fresh Prince of Carson on his newest release, the Da$h-assisted “Huey Knew.”
Sampling “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” theme song, the “young’n from Del Amo” tells a story about how his life got flipped, turned upside down while sharing some aspirations.
“I hope I’m in Obama’s iPod,” he raps. “Yeah, before I had a desktop / I was looking for a shortcut to be an icon.”
Produced by frequent TDE beatsmith Willie B., “Huey Knew” also marks the start of Soulo season.
“He’s officially in the game,” tweeted TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith. “go get em @abdashsoul it’s ur time #TDE.”
Soulo’s been hard at work on his fourth studio album, the follow-up to 2014’s These Days…, for quite some time, but it looks like it may be dropping soon.
Last month, Tiffith revealed that the final mixes have been turned in and a release date would follow shortly. Stay tuned for that, but in the meantime, listen to “Huey Knew” below.
