Kehlani’s hometown Golden State Warriors lost the NBA championship to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but that didn’t stop her from celebrating a winner.
On Monday (Jun. 20), just a day after the Cavs won their first NBA title, the singer congratulated her ex-boyfriend, Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving, on his new trophy.
“Tough night for the city, but congratulations the most humble person I’ve ever met,” wrote Kehlani. “@kyrieirving I love u! ❤️🔥❤️.”
Kehlani’s relationship with Kyrie ended earlier this year in a headline-making way. Following her split from Irving, the singer was pictured holding hands with former flame PARTYNEXTDOOR.
She was then ridiculed online, as some saw this as evidence that she’d been caught cheating on Irving. However, Kyrie later said their relationship had been over before the photo was taken. In any case, she was hospitalized shortly after PND’s photo went viral and admitted that she tried to commit suicide.
Kehlani has since been an advocate when it comes to mental health and wellness issues, particularly focusing on suicide prevention.
“I’m very honest with the people that support me,” she said in a speech following the incident. “It wasn’t a first time thing and that’s not OK. That’s not OK for anyone, not the people around you, not the people who love you, not the people who care about you.”
