Yasiin Bey is back.

The artist formerly known as Mos Def may have announced his retirement from the music industry in January, but the Black Star spitter returns today with “Dec 99th – Local Time.”

Recorded in DPlanet Studios in Cape Town, Yasiin sings his way through the Ferrari Sheppard instrumental. “The local time,” he sings. “The local time is now.”

In a statement through A Country Called Earth’s SoundCloud, Bey revealed a statement about the song. “The local time is always now,” he wrote. “Forever is a current event.”

In January, Yasiin’s retirement announcement followed an arrest over immigration laws.

“I’m retiring from the music recording industry as it is currently assembled today, and also from Hollywood, effective immediately,” he said at the time. “I’ll be releasing my final album this year. And that’s that.”

Perhaps this is a cut off his final album? Listen to “Dec 99th – Local Time” below.
