Lil Wayne appeared on Destiny’s Child’s “Soldier,” but over the weekend, he made headlines after meeting some real life soldiers. While passing through Indianapolis International Airport, Weezy grounded his plane to salute members of the military.
The Young Money rapper spotted a military plane arriving next to his private jet and asked his pilot to get off so he could greet the men in uniform. He walked into the lobby and shook hands with every one of the 30 servicemen. An airport employee documented the act of kindness on Facebook.
“Lil Wayne came through IND today,” wrote airport employee Amanda Cooper Lickliter. “At the same time he was due to depart, there was a military C130 arriving. It parked next to the Gulfstream he was on, and about 30 men in uniform crossed the ramp into the lobby. After they walked in front of the G-550, Lil Wayne apparently told his pilots he wanted off. They shut down their engines, and he and his boys got off their plane, came into the lobby, and shook every one of the service men’s hands.”
But Weezy wasn’t looking for media attention and simply did it out of the kindness of his heart. “There was no press and no one to show off for,” said Lickliter. “Just a seemingly genuine act of respect. I know a lot of controversy surrounds him but, today, I was impressed.”
Lickliter also addressed naysayers in one of the picture’s comments. “Someone asked me where the other 29 soldiers were,” she said. “It’s a decent-sized lobby and I caught this shot just as he was getting ready to walk back out to his plane. The remaining military is to the left of my picture, getting coffee, using the restroom, smoking outside, and eating cookies/popcorn. Just thought I would clarify since there seemed to be some doubt.”
On Friday, Tunechi and 2 Chainz dropped their joint album ColleGrove featuring the single “Bounce.”
