“Oh My God.” That’s what BJ the Chicago Kid has fans saying with the release of his video for “A Day in My Mind.” It’s a two-part black-and-white visual, which showcases “A Woman’s World” and his previously unreleased “OMG” collaboration with Jay Rock.
While the TDE rapper, who’s currently recovering from a motorcycle accident, delivers grim reality raps in the first part, the Motown crooner handles its soothing vocals. Then, the Shawny Ocho-directed clip transitions into “Woman’s World” for a whole different feel.
Take a trip through a day in BJ’s mind in the mini-film below.
While “OMG” was previously unreleased, “Woman’s World” is a standout cut off BJ’s debut album In My Mind, which dropped last week with guests like Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, and Big K.R.I.T. If “Woman’s World” sounds familiar, that’s because it was inspired by James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s World.”
“I feel like we only pay attention to the first part of what James Brown says: ‘This is a man’s world,'” BJ told the Red Light Special podcast. “We forget or act like the radio goes off when he says, ‘But it wouldn’t be nothing without a woman or girl.’ I took the part where we turn the radio down and made that my biggest message. I’m really pretty much saying the same thing he said but I’m making sure the whole line is heard.”
