Bobby Shmurda speaks. The Brooklyn rapper, who was denied bail for the seventh time last month, called in to ThisIs50 from jail recently, along with his fellow incarcerated GS9 member, Rowdy Rebel.
During the interview, Shmurda explained why he feels his bail keeps getting denied. “They ain’t trying to give me the deal because they know if I come home, I’ma beat this,” he said.
The “Hot Ni**a” rapper has been in jail for approximately a year for conspiracy to commit murder and multiple other charges including reckless endangerment and weapons possession. His attorneys have gone on record saying that his $2 million bail is too high.
Shmurda is due back in court on Feb. 22. For now, though, listen to his new interview and check out highlights from the conversation below.
On rumored 50 Cent beef: “50’s cool. I don’t do the rap beef. Everybody that know Bobby know I don’t do the rap beef. I don’t got time for all that. First of all, I’m in jail. How I’ma beef with someone when I’m in jail? I don’t even do the rap beef. That’s not my character…50 cool. 50 ain’t never disrespect me.”
On his $2 million bail: “They ain’t trying to give me the deal because they know if I come home, I’ma beat this, so right now, they trying to hold me in here as long as possible. So, they’re trying to hold me in for like 3 or 4 years. And then try to give me time served or something but they don’t nothing on me. I’m not even supposed to still be here. I got several lawyers maintaining my case that’s saying that the bail is supposed to be dropped and these charges are supposed to be dropped. The bail is not even supposed to be high due to the Emory Law Book. But they violating my constitutional rights. They violating my civil rights that they are just flushing it down the toilet for they own political reasons.”
On Martin Shkreli wanting to bail Shmurda out: “I didn’t get to get in contact with him. I wish I could. I heard what happened to him. That was crazy, the whole situation is crazy. I think they did that shit for no reason, really. Because all this time he was out and now he was talking about us and all of a sudden he got locked. That shit is crazy. I hope he works it all out and I hope he beats his case.”
On injustice: “They told me when they locked me up, they don’t want to see a next 50 Cent. They don’t want to see a next Diddy. They don’t want to see a next Jay Z coming out of New York. This shit is crazy. This shit is past rap, this is injustice, Black Lives Matter. It’s past everything. This shit is crazy.”
On artists who claim affiliation with GS9: “Everybody who’s GS9 is locked up. There’s only one person who’s out and that’s my brother. His name is Shane and that’s it. It ain’t no more GS9 members. Everybody locked up. They got the whole label locked up. So everybody who claim they GS9, I don’t even know what’s going on with them.”
