2015 was the year of Drake. The Canadian rapper topped the charts with two albums—his mixtape, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, and joint project with Future, What a Time to Be Alive—and was the most streamed artist worldwide on Spotify, with 1.8 billion streams.
IYRTITL was also the second most streamed album of the year, while The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness earned top honors.
Following Drake, the biggest artists of the year were Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Maroon 5, and Kanye West. Major Lazer’s “Lean On” was the most streamed track of 2015, while OMI’s “Cheerleader,” Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again,” and Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” made the top 5.
Kendrick Lamar not only topped Rap-Up’s best of 2015 list with his album To Pimp a Butterfly, he was also at the top of most playlists—25 million listeners streamed 4,700 years worth of K-Dot in 2015!
