While promoting his upcoming album Royalty, Chris Brown paid a return visit to “Ebro in the Morning” on Tuesday. Breezy sat down with Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez and discussed his headline-making personal life, fatherhood, and his Thanksgiving plans. But there was one topic that he wasn’t able to speak on—politics.
“I can’t even get into politics ’cause I don’t know nothing about it,” he said. “That’s not even my lane.”
He has been criticized for the company he keeps. “This is what I’ve been born into, not saying gangs… I was born into poverty. I was born into the bad neighborhoods. The people I can identity with is the people who have been doubted.”
He says that he no longer communicates with his ex Karrueche, who has gone on to launch a career of her own. “Much success, much blessings to her.”
He once threatened Tyson Beckford when he thought he was making a move on Karrueche, but it’s all water under the bridge. “That was me being insecure,” he said. “I was in my feelings because at the time, somebody wasn’t giving me the responses that I would like. I took it upon myself to be an asshole. For me, I can admit it and say I was insecure.”
He recorded a song for Teyana Taylor, which samples Adina Howard’s “Freak Like Me,” but he also hopes to include it on Royalty. “I’ma try to get it for my album too ’cause the song’s too big.”
This year, he will celebrate Thanksgiving with family at his house in L.A. His favorite Thanksgiving foods include yams, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese, but he won’t be eating collard greens. “I don’t want my house smelling like shit,” he laughed.
As for Royalty, the album represents “where I’m at right now in my life,” said Chris, adding, “She’s the biggest part of my life.”
His 18-month-old daughter has changed everything. “My daughter is wonderful, she’s gorgeous, so I said, you know what, let me at least do the right things for her. I can’t be perfect, but she’s helping me to shape my decisions and my actual consciousness.”
Royalty will be available for pre-order on Friday, while the album drops on Dec. 18.
