Janet Jackson and N.W.A are among the finalists for the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The pop icon and rap supergroup are on this year’s ballot, alongside Chaka Khan, Chic, The Cars, Chicago, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths, and Yes.
Fresh off the blockbuster biopic Straight Outta Compton, N.W.A earns its fourth nomination on the ballot, while Jackson and Khan score their first nomination. Chic, The Smiths, and Deep Purple have been nominated 10 times.
“I am humbled by the nomination and recognition of N.W.A’s contribution to music and culture by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” said Ice Cube in a statement. “It has been an incredible year for us as a group, for our loyal fans, and in helping us to all keep Eazy-E’s memory alive.”
According to Billboard, acts are eligible for the Rock Hall 25 years after the release of their first recording, album, or single.
The top vote-getters will be announced in December and inducted in April at a ceremony in New York, which will be broadcast on HBO later in the year.
Fans can vote for their favorites on the Hall’s website. The top five fan favorites will be considered for induction as a fan ballot. Votes from an international jury panel will also be considered.
