Music biopics are a hot commodity at the moment, it seems. With Straight Outta Compton making a killing at the box office, it’s not surprising that Lifetime has just given the green light to a forthcoming film about a very different ’90s icon—Toni Braxton.
The original movie will be titled Un-Break My Heart, based on Braxton’s 2014 memoir of the same name. The singer herself will star and executive produce, and Vondie Curtis Hall (Abducted: The Carline White Story) will direct. Deadline reports that production will begin later this year.
Un-Break My Heart chronicles Braxton’s fight against illness, her financial struggles, and the divorce she went through, as well as her son’s autism.
In November, Lifetime aired the unauthorized Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, followed by the Whitney Houston film Whitney earlier this year.
