Jay Rock has been teasing his long-delayed sophomore album 90059 since 2013, when he claimed it would come out the following year. Suffice to say it didn’t—last October, Rock released “Pay for It” with Kendrick Lamar and “Money Trees Deuce” in June, but has remained relatively quiet…until now.
The TDE rapper just released the video for the album’s title track. It’s a multi-part epic that starts with an instrumental section. We see SZA walking in slow-motion to a car, which contains a bound and masked Jay Rock. Then, the beat changes and SZA sings a soulful, short song, while driving her labelmate around. Eventually SZA lets Rock out of his mask, and he starts rapping over a dark, minor-key beat.
“Bullets have a name defined by different calibers, concrete jungle beware of different challengers,” he spits, channeling ODB with his dense lyrics and wild, caterwauling voice.
The video concludes with a thrilling police chase. It’s an exciting taste of an album we’ll hopefully get to hear soon.
