Iggy Azalea is done with social media—for now. The “Fancy” rapper has announced plans to take a break from Twitter because of its negativity.
She recently returned from Hawaii with her boyfriend Nick Young and discovered photos of herself online. But she was criticized for her cellulite. “Just got back from a great vacation, came online and saw apparently it’s shocking and unheard of to be a woman and have cellulite. Lol,” said Iggy.
She called out the paparazzi for invading her privacy. “I just want to have peace and relaxation time without a perve with long distance lense hiding out taking pictures, everyone deserves peace.”
The incident was the breaking point for Iggy, who has become a punching bag on social media. “I feel the hatred and pettiness i see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that,” she explained. “To become nasty because of the way I feel iam treated would be a disservice to my fans and I promise i will try to keep smiling.”
In response, she has decided to take a leave of absence. “But I also want to let my fans know iam taking some time away from social media. I need to be happy and it is too negative and draining.”
She has turned over her Twitter account to her management team. “My management will tweet/run my accounts from today onwards with updates etc unless any message is signed -IA. Love you all. Peace out!”
She closed with one last message: “The Internet is the ugliest reflection of man kind there is.”
While she may have less time to tweet, Iggy will have more time to rehearse for her “Great Escape Tour” with Nick Jonas and Tinashe, which kicks off April 14 in Fresno, Calif.
