Jazmine Sullivan braved the heat during her first visit to “The Breakfast Club” on Wednesday. The Philly songstress, whose third album Reality Show is out now, spoke about her love for ratchet reality shows like “Love & Hip Hop” and “Bad Girls Club,” which inspired her album title.
“The album is my way of showing my reality,” she explained.
Following the release of her 2010 album Love Me Back, she took a hiatus. “I left music because I was in a really bad relationship. It had gotten abusive,” she said.
Her ex-boyfriend once slapped her so hard that she couldn’t hear. “I was like, ‘I might not be able to sing.’ And that kinda woke me up.”
But she doesn’t hold it against him. “He’s a young man and I think that we both were each other’s firsts in experiencing different things,” she said. “I wish him the best, I just don’t think that we were right for each other.”
She is “kinda” dating someone now, but realizes that it’s not always easy. “I think a lot of guys are scared of me. I don’t know why though,” said Jazmine, who plans to tour this spring.
And of course, Charlamagne threw in one final inappropriate question about masturbation.
