On Jan. 15, Dawn Richard returns with Blackheart, her second album in a trilogy. Today she has liberated a new track called “Castles” (via Yahoo! Music). On the airy ballad, penned by Dawn and produced by Swagg R’Celious, the former Danity Kane member sings about a foundation that wasn’t built to last.

Dawn tells Rap-Up that the song was written about her relationship with Danity Kane (more on that in our interview later this week).

“Built towers of dreams just to live carefree / We knew it wouldn’t last, but we kept hope as our lead.”

To celebrate the album release, Dawn will perform songs from the Black Era at shows in New York (1/22), L.A. (2/5), and San Francisco (2/7).
