The day has finally come for Teyana Taylor. Six years after making her debut, the Harlem singer has announced a title and release date for her first album.
The project, entitled VII, will arrive October 21 via G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam.
“Don’t Sleep. #VII #Oct.21 #ItsTime,” tweeted Teyana.
She explained the title, adding, “(S.E.V.E.N: 7 is the year of completion) Is everything is finally falling into place, God Is Great.”
Earlier in the week, a blonde Teyana shot a video for the first single “Maybe” featuring Pusha T and Yo Gotti, and is readying “Do Not Disturb” as the potential follow-up.
The 23-year-old was previously signed to Pharrell’s Star Trak/Interscope label, where she released her debut single “Google Me,” but her album From a Planet Called Harlem never saw a commercial release.
After parting ways with the label in 2012, she released her mixtape The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor and signed a deal with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music.
In the meantime, she has appeared on the G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer and West’s Grammy-winning album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
She will also join August Alsina on his upcoming “Testimony Live” tour, which kicks off August 14 in Seattle.
