Kanye West’s Nike Air Yeezy II has come and gone. The long-awaited sneaker, nicknamed “Red October,” quietly went on sale early Sunday and sold out within minutes.
Without warning, Nike tweeted a purchase link to their online store at 1 p.m. EST. Only 11 minutes later, the $245 shoe was sold out, leaving many fans upset that they couldn’t get their hands on a pair.
It’s unknown if Nike plans to release more online or at retail stores.
Nike launched the original Air Yeezy in 2009 and followed it up with two colorways of the Air Yeezy II in 2012. Due to the limited quantity, the shoe fetched as much as $90,000 on eBay.
While Kanye was seen wearing the sneaker at his concerts, the “Red Octobers” had yet to see an official release and there was growing doubt that they ever would after Kanye severed ties with Nike.
He has since partnered with adidas and is currently working on his first collection.
“The old me without a daughter might have taken the Nike deal because I just love Nike so much,” the rapper told Angie Martinez in November. “But the new me with a daughter takes the adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family.”
