Wissam Al Mana and Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson is officially off the market. The pop icon secretly wed Qatari billionaire Wissam Al Mana in a private ceremony last year.

Amidst rumors that they were planning a wedding for this year, the couple announced their surprise nuptials in a joint statement to “Entertainment Tonight” on Monday.

“The rumors regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quiet, private, and beautiful ceremony,” said the newlyweds, who were recently spotted at Milan Fashion Week.

The couple also released a black-and-white portrait of themselves shot by famed photographed Marco Glaviano.

They donated money to charity in lieu of exchanging gifts. “Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favorite children’s charities,” said the two, who asked that the public respect their privacy.

“We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy. With love, Wissam and Janet.”

This is Janet’s third marriage. She was previously married to R&B singer James DeBarge in 1984, but it was annulled the next year. The private superstar also secretly wed her producer René Elizondo, Jr. in 1991.
