Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars debuted some new material and took on a few covers during his visit to BBC Radio 1 “Live Lounge.” The R&B crooner kicked off with the Christmas classic “Silent Night” before launching into “Locked Out of Heaven” and the dancehall-flavored “Show Me” off his sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox, available Tuesday.

He covered Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” (13:07) and even a couple Disney classics from The Little Mermaid (16:15).

“There’s this one song I could never get through because I choke up. It’s the best song ever written,” joked Bruno before performing “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. “I want to look fear in the eyes right now and then I want to kick it in the ding ding.”

He also did “Under the Sea,” while his Smeezingtons producing partner Phil Lawrence provided some comedic ad-libs.

“You know why I like the covers so much? I don’t know if you guys know this, but that’s how I started. For $100, you can get me to sing at your bar, your pub—for four hours.”

He signed off with a holiday wish. “Until we meet again, my name is Bruno Mars. Merry Christmas!”
