Fresh off her double win at the American Music Awards, Nicki Minaj called into Ryan Seacrest to discuss her big night, why she’s nervous about watching herself on “American Idol,” and her re-release Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up. Nicki will promote her fragrance “Pink Friday” in her hometown of Queens tomorrow and give away turkeys at her old elementary school today.
On her new album: “I feel like the music is such a better representation of me where I am now as an artist in my career. As long as people can hear the music, I’m good.”
On “American Idol”: “I’m scared! Maybe I shouldn’t have been so… It’s hard for me to not say how I really feel. I’m having a hard time [with how honest I am sometimes]. Everyone else is so nice. I was just thinking back about some things, and I was like, ‘I wonder if that was not nice.’ … As an artist, I’ve always grown more from the tougher criticism. I would like to be that person and to try to help people get that thick skin and really give it their all. It is a competition.”
On whether she would perform with fellow judge Mariah Carey on “Idol”: “If she’ll have me, I’ll be there waiting.”
