Mariah Carey is hitting another high note in her career. The multi-octave diva is set to be honored as a BMI Icon at the BMI Urban Awards.
The entertainment community will gather to salute the pop diva along with other songwriters, producers, and publishers of the most-performed urban songs of the year at a star-studded event at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills on September 7.
The BMI Urban Awards will include an all-star musical tribute to Carey, as well as the presentation of the Urban Songwriter, Song, Producer, and Publisher of the Year crystals.
BMI Icons are selected because of their “unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.” As the 2012 honoree, Carey will join the ranks of The Jacksons, Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Little Richard, Al Green, The Bee Gees, Willie Nelson, and Dolly Parton.
The Grammy-winning singer has scored 18 Hot 100 No. 1 singles, more than any other solo artist in history and second in the all-genre, and has sold more than 200 million albums, singles, and videos worldwide to become the top-selling female artist of all time.
