Kreayshawn’s video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers will not be televised. The rock band explains why they decided to scrap the “Gucci Gucci” rapper’s visuals.
The group originally enlisted the Bay Area artist to direct the video for their new single “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie,” but ended up going with a different concept.
“We had one sort of failed attempt at making a video for this song, which was indoors and just kind of dark and dank and not really fun or anything, so we thought, ‘Let’s go with the opposite of that,'” Anthony Kiedis told MTV News.
Kreayshawn, who directed her own video for “Gucci Gucci” as well as Lil B’s “Like a Martian,” explained that her treatment was originally chosen by the band themselves.
“It’s got that organic feel, but it still gives the band a great shine and they look fu**ing awesome,” the Berkeley Digital Film Institute dropout previously told MTV News. “They are looking off the chain, man. Anthony’s in there looking like a swimsuit model.”
In the end, they called upon director Marc Klasfeld to reshoot a simple rooftop performance clip. Watch the final version below.
