Nicki Minaj remembers a lost loved one on the poignant “We Miss You.” While the song is reportedly an old recording, the timing is uncanny considering the tragic passing of her cousin earlier this week. “Why’d you have to leave in July on a peaceful and serene summer night?” she eerily asks. “I’ll never love again.”
In other Nicki news, E! will air a one-hour special chronicling the hip-hop superstar’s rise to fame on July 13 at 10 p.m. The special features new interviews with Minaj along with her mother, father, Lil Wayne, and Swizz Beatz.
UPDATE: Nicki took to Twitter to explain the song’s origin. “Tho the lyrics of ‘We Miss You’ eerily depict the circumstances surrounding my cousin’s death, I wrote & recorded that song on 5/24/2010,” she said. “It was sent to Mariah Carey & Keyshia Cole over a year ago for a possible feature. It didn’t make Pink Friday due to clearance issues.”
