Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars’ burgeoning career hit a bump when he was arrested for suspicion of narcotics possession early Sunday morning in Las Vegas.

The hitmaker, born Peter Hernandez, was taken into custody around 2:40 a.m. after security officials at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino allegedly confronted him in a bathroom and discovered narcotics, reports the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He took the stage earlier in the night at club Wasted Space for a taped performance for the Walmart Soundcheck Risers concert series.

Sgt. John Sheahan did not know Sunday afternoon what drug Mars possessed. The “Just the Way You Are” singer left the state of Nevada and traveled to Texas for his next gig, later tweeting, “Texas is dope! Im in dallas rite now looking foward to meeting some folks @ the radio stations. tune in for a special live performance.”

Mars, who scored hit after hit with B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire,” will release his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans on Oct. 5., the day before hitting the road with Maroon 5 and OneRepublic for a West Coast tour that kicks off in Santa Barbara, Calif.
