Chris Brown may be headed into the Verzuz ring after all.
The R&B superstar has been vocal about his thoughts on a potential Verzuz battle, but he could be singing a new tune. During an interview with Big Boy, Chris revealed that he has been in talks with the powers that be.
“I’ma keep it a hundred. I’ve been talking to the people so we might figure something out but I ain’t gon’ say nothing yet. I ain’t gonna get nobody hype yet,” he teased.
However, he made it clear that nothing has been finalized yet. “The check ain’t been cut, none of that,” he added.
He went on to explain why he has been hesitant to participate in Swizz Beatz and Timbaland’s matchup series. “Me at my career now, I ain’t hanging no towel up,” he said. “I don’t feel that I wanna go up against somebody that might not be in there. It’s too much of a Verzuz for me. I don’t want to have to overshadow nobody or really, ‘Damn, that boy killed this person.’ I don’t even want to go back and forth with none of that.”
The 33-year-old singer feels it’s too soon in his career. “I’ll do some Verzuz in like 15 years when I’m gray hairs and all that shit,” he joked.
Chris, whose new album Breezy drops Friday, previously said that he was only interested in battling himself. “Only vs ima do is CHRIS BROWN VS CHRIS BREEZY… not in competition with nobody but myself…” he said back in 2020.
Brown’s name has been mentioned alongside potential competitors like Usher, Drake, Justin Bieber, Trey Songz, and Omarion, who previously expressed interest in doing Verzuz with Chris. Instead, Omarion will face off with Mario in a Verzuz battle this Thursday.
During his conversation with Big Boy, Chris also responded to fans who think he’s better than his idol, Michael Jackson. “Hell no, I ain’t better than him,” he said. “My personal take on it is I wouldn’t even be breathing or even be able to sing a song if that man didn’t exist… He’s light years ahead. There is no competing with him.”
