On Mother’s Day, Kanye West returned with his video for “Life of the Party” featuring André 3000.
The song is from the deluxe edition of DONDA, which dropped in November, while the visual features photos from Ye’s childhood coming to life.
It has been updated to showcase pieces from the Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga collection, which will be available for purchase on May 25. Portions of the video were also used in a TV commercial for the launch.
The original “Life of the Party” featured André 3000, but his verse does not appear in the video version. After Kanye debuted the song during his DONDA listening in Las Vegas, Drake leaked the track on SiriusXM amid their rivalry.
“I put Virgil [Abloh] and Drake on the same text, and it wasn’t about the matching Arc’teryx or Kid Cudi dress,” Ye raps. “Thought we was the new Abu Dhabi / Told Drake don’t play with me on GD / And he sent that message to everybody.”
André 3000 later revealed that he was unaware that Ye would be dissing Drake. “The track I received and wrote to didn’t have the diss verse on it and we were hoping to make a more focused offering for the DONDA album but I guess things happen like they are supposed to,” he said in a statement. “It’s unfortunate that it was released in this way and two artists that I love are going back and forth.”
Ye and Drake went on to squash their beef during the “Free Larry Hoover Benefit Concert” in L.A. in December.
