Coi Leray won’t let the haters get her down.
The rapper, whose debut album Trendsetter was released last Friday, is responding to critics over her first-week sales. According to preliminary estimates, shared by Akademiks, the album is on track to sell around 11,000 copies in its first week.
After social media clowned her over the reported low figures, Coi seemingly responded to the criticism. But instead of allowing her detractors to get the best of her, she remained positive.
“God has been the best father to me. I can’t complain about anything,” she said. “My debut album is amazing and not one song can you say is bad.”
She also noted that it hasn’t even been a full tracking week, but people are still eager to tear her down. “It been 5 days. I understand Coi Leray is so viral & works good on blogs headlines but trust me,it’s all part of the game just ride out andstayfocus,” she added.
Some of Coi’s old tweets also resurfaced, including from last May where she was confident she would top the charts. “I can guarantee my album will be #1,” she wrote. In January, she tweeted, “Ima have the biggest album of 2022.”
Someone claiming to be Coi’s father Benzino, who runs the Instagram page @iambenzino, seemingly responded to the low sales with a series of laughing emojis. But Benzino says the account is not his and vowed to take legal action against the imposter, while defending his daughter.
“Oh yea and why would I laugh at Coi? She’s one the best things that I am. I very proud of her and her accomplishments,” he tweeted.
Trendsetter features the hit “Blick Blick” with Nicki Minaj, plus appearances from H.E.R., Yung Bleu, G Herbo, Chief Keef, NAV, and Polo G.
Final sales figures won’t be released until Monday. Lil Durk’s 7220 is in a close battle for No. 1, while Fivio Foreign’s B.I.B.L.E. is expected to debut in the top 10.
