While Kanye West readies DONDA 2, 2 Chainz is working on a sequel of his own.
The Atlanta rapper and Lil Wayne plan to release the second installment of their collaborative album ColleGrove this year. Speaking with DJ Akademiks for his “Off the Record” podcast, 2 Chainz announced that ColleGrove 2 is already finished.
“This one is definitely coming out this year,” he said. “We’re actually in the process of mixing it already and [Wayne] is on every single song.”
The original ColleGrove was released in 2016, but Weezy was not featured on all 12 tracks. Unlike their past recording sessions, when they were not always in the studio together, this time they were able to link up “multiple times.”
“I feel super excited about this fu**ing project because it don’t sound like nothing I’ve never heard before,” 2 Chainz added. “Doing something like that with somebody like Wayne is welcome, it’s warm, it’s gon’ be accepted.”
But first, 2 Chainz is set to release his own studio album, Dope Don’t Sell Itself, on Feb. 4. The project, which he has called his “last trap album,” features appearances from Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Moneybagg Yo, and Lil Durk.
Earlier this month, Wayne released his 2011 mixtape Sorry 4 the Wait to streaming services for the first time featuring four new tracks.
