Birdman is opening up about that kiss.
The Cash Money boss was asked about the viral photo and videos of him kissing Lil Wayne on the lips that have became a widely discussed topic in hip-hop.
During an interview with Revolt’s “Big Facts Podcast,” Birdman attributed the affectionate gesture to their close father-son relationship. At the time, he feared he may not live to see another day.
“I always looked at Wayne as my son…’cause I was in the streets and I thought this might be the last time they ever see me, ’cause I was living like that,” he said. “That’s where that shit really started from. I thought that, every night I leave, I might not never come back.”
Birdman, who signed Wayne to Cash Money at age 12, went on to explain their tight-knit bond. “I always today look at Wayne as my child,” he added. “I was his father when he didn’t have a father and I love him like my own and I’d give my life for him and I’d take a life for him.”
The two publicly locked lips on several occasions including BET’s “Rap City” in 2002 and again several years later on “106 & Park.”
“I’m the only person he kiss,” Wayne said during his “106 & Park” appearance. “Ain’t no freaky shit, we just roll like that,” added Birdman.
Back in 2009, Tim Westwood asked Birdman about the infamous smooch. “That’s my son,” he said. “If he was right here, I’d kiss him again. I kiss my daughter. I kiss my other son. If you got a child, you understand. I’ll kill for him, ride for him, and die for him.”
