T.I. was arrested in Amsterdam after a run-in with a police officer.

The Atlanta rapper took to Instagram on Tuesday (Aug. 3) to explain what happened. According to T.I., he was riding his bicycle when a cop pulled up alongside him and told him to stop using his phone. He slowed down as the officer proceeded to cut him off in his vehicle. In the process, the handlebar from T.I.’s bike broke off the cop’s side mirror.

He was taken into custody, but wasn’t placed in handcuffs. Instead, the officer “invited” him inside the police van.

“So, I’m locked up now,” Tip later said while waiting in a holding cell. “I’m obviously not supposed to have my phone as I’m biking, and because the policeman ran into me and broke his [side mirror], and because I didn’t have my passport on me. I don’t know, it’ll be fine.”

While the officer was “extremely upset,” Tip seemed to be taking it all in stride. “I, myself, was having a great time. I’m still not upset—I’m having a phenomenal time. They arrested me and didn’t even put me in handcuffs. They just opened the door and invited me to the backseat. I obliged.”

He tried to pay his bond with cash, but they would only accept credit. “We working on the buddy system out here and I like it,” he said.

Once he got his passport, he was released after 25 minutes and credited “the love of my life” Tiny for sticking by his side through it all. When a friend of his called the incident “bullshit,” T.I. was more forgiving. “Everybody has a bad morning,” he said.

T.I. has been traveling through Europe with his wife. The couple, who is under investigation for sexual assault, is celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary.
