Young Thug is headed to the big screen.
The Slime Language rapper is set to make his acting debut alongside Tiffany Haddish and Shahadi Wright Joseph (The Lion King) in the musical dramedy Throw It Back. According to Complex, Thugger will also serve as executive producer and oversee the soundtrack, which will consist of southern hip-hop and HBCU collegiate band rhythms.
The “dance-filled musical” centers around Wytrell (Joseph), a high school senior who has never stood out from the crowd. But that all changes when a controversial Miami rapper decides to feature the high school’s dance team in his latest music video. Wytrell battles for a spot on the squad and a shot at being in the spotlight.
The Shadae Lamar Smith-directed film was written by Smith and Rochée Jeffrey, and will be produced by Haddish’s She Ready production company and Feigco Entertainment.
In April, Thug dropped his Slime Language 2 compilation featuring Drake. Travis Scott, Big Sean, Future, Kid Cudi, Lil Uzi Vert, and Lil Baby. The 23-track project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
