DMX is battling for his life following a drug overdose.

According to TMZ, the 50-year-old rap icon was at his home when he suffered an overdose around 11 p.m. on Friday night (April 2). The overdose reportedly triggered a heart attack.

He was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, New York and is currently in the critical care unit. TMZ reports that he is in “grave condition” and his prognosis is not good. One source says he has “some brain activity,” while another claims he’s in a “vegetative state” and doctors have cautioned he may not make it.

DMX has had a long-documented battle with addiction and has been to rehab several times. His most recent stint came in 2019 following his 12-month sentence for tax evasion when he checked himself in as a preventative measure as he felt temptations to use again.

DMX was in the midst of staging a comeback. Back in July, he and Snoop Dogg faced off in a Verzuz battle, with over half-a-million viewers tuning in. In 2019, he signed a new deal with Def Jam and was readying a new album, his first in nearly nine years, which is set to feature Pop Smoke, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Snoop, and Bono.

His friends in the hip-hop community including T.I., Ja Rule, and Rick Ross took to social media to share their support and pray for his recovery.

“Shake back Big Bro. We made plans Maaaan We got shit to do!!!” wrote T.I. “So now I’m tellin you like you told me…This too shall pass…We need Real 1s like you around!!!”
