Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s marriage is reportedly coming to an end.
Yesterday, multiple sources reported that “divorce is imminent” for the couple. After a tumultuous year, Kim has hired divorce attorney to the stars, Laura Wasser, and is preparing to file for divorce from her husband of six years.
The couple has been living separately amid their potential split. Kanye has been spending time at his $14 million Wyoming ranch while Kim remains at the family’s Hidden Hills, Calif. home with their four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
“December was a rough month for Kim. She has been living separately from Kanye. Over the holidays, it was hard for her to stay positive,” a source tells PEOPLE. “She has been trying her best, though, for the kids. She stayed in Los Angeles for New Year’s [Eve]. Kourtney and Khloé [Kardashian] were around to support her. She is very grateful to have her sisters to lean on.”
“She is sad about it, of course,” adds the source. “She just feels she has done everything in her power to make her marriage work. Even though she has been thinking about divorce for months, she hasn’t filed because she feels terrible for the kids.”
As for Kanye, he is prepared for what’s to come. “He’s okay. He’s sad, but okay,” said the source. “He knows the inevitable will happen, and he knows that it’s coming soon.”
Page Six reported that Kanye’s unsuccessful bid for president and public drama have taken a toll on their marriage. “Kim has grown up a lot,” says the source. “She is serious about taking the bar exam and becoming a lawyer, she is serious about her prison reform campaign. Meanwhile Kanye is talking about running for president and saying other crazy sh*t, and she’s just had enough of it.”
Kanye has grown “uncomfortable and irritated” by the Kardashians’ over-the-top lifestyles. “[He] is completely over the entire family … He wants nothing to do with them,” says the insider.
While their marriage may be on the rocks, they remain committed parents. Despite conflicting reports, TMZ says the couple spent Christmas together at home with their four kids and presented each other with lavish gifts.
Kanye reportedly surprised Kim with five 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 SUVs priced at just under $200,000 each, while Kim gave Yeezy several James Turrell art pieces worth over $1 million.
“Kim and Kanye remain in lockstep when it comes to their family and parenting, and doing Christmas big is a sign of that,” writes TMZ.
The couple remains on speaking terms as they try to work through their issues. “They have been working on their marriage for a long time, but no decision has been made,” says one source, who adds that they are “in counseling and exploring their options.”
