Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are staying together.
After a tumultuous year for one of Hollywood’s most powerful couples, the rapper, 43, and beauty mogul, 40, are not headed for divorce, despite rumors otherwise. According to a new report from PEOPLE, they remain a couple but “very much live separate lives.”
“Kim has work and projects that are important to her, and Kanye has his,” says a source. “Their lives don’t overlap much.”
The source adds that “Kim seems happy” and is “very focused on work and causes” including justice reform advocacy. “She strongly believes she can make a change when it comes to prison reform,” says the source. “This is her passion.”
Last week, Kim publicly urged President Donald Trump to commute the sentence of Brandon Bernard. Bernard, who was convicted of murder as a teenager in 2000, was executed by the federal government on Thursday (Dec. 10).
Meanwhile, Kanye has remained mostly out of the spotlight since conceding his presidential campaign in early November. However, he already has his sights set on a 2024 bid for the White House.
It’s been a year of ups and downs for the Wests, who were reportedly on the brink of divorce following Kanye’s anti-abortion comments and Twitter meltdown over the summer where he accused his wife of trying to have him hospitalized for bipolar disorder.
West later apologized for his comments, including accusations that Kim had an inappropriate relationship with Meek Mill. The couple, who has been married for six years, reconnected during a private family trip with their children, daughters North, 7, and Chicago, 3, as well as sons Saint, 5, and Psalm, 18 months.
Just last month, Kim shared a photo of the couple while reflecting on the 10-year anniversary of Kanye’s album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
“Happy 10 year anniversary to Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album,” wrote Kim. “For those that don’t know the story behind ‘Lost In The World’…Kanye couldn’t come up with some of the lyrics but then realized he had them in a poem he had written me that was my birthday card he gave me for my 30th birthday. He took the poem he wrote me and made it the song. I keep everything!”
