Barack Obama has bars.
In his new book A Promised Land, the former President of the United States revealed how rap kept him motivated during his presidential campaign, citing JAY-Z’s “My 1st Song” and Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” as the two songs that helped get his “head in the right place.”
“Both were about defying the odds and putting it all on the line,” he said during an Instagram Reel for ATTN:.
He then recited the lyrics from Eminem’s 2002 hit off the 8 Mile soundtrack: “Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity / To seize everything you ever wanted / In one moment / Would you capture it / Or just let it slip?”
After the president shared the video on his official Instagram page, a grateful Eminem reposted the clip on his IG Story and added the prayer hand emoji.
Obama’s love for hip-hop has been well documented. The 44th President of the United States most recently shared his “Promised Land” playlist featuring memorable songs from his administration, including “Lose Yourself” and “My 1st Song.”
Eminem shared his support for Joe Biden by allowing “Lose Yourself” to soundtrack a campaign ad for the President-elect. This marked the first time Em, who’s long been guarded about his music, licensed his song to a political candidate.
