Adele and Skepta are making it official.

A year after first sparking rumors, PEOPLE confirms that the Grammy-winning singer, 32, and British rapper, 38, are dating.

The couple’s relationship has been “heating up” in recent months. “They run in the same circles in London, and she’s having fun,” says a source.

The two have been friends for years and share much in common including music, their hometown of Tottenham, London, and parenthood. Adele has an 8-year-old son, Angelo, while Skepta is father to a 2-year-old daughter, River.

“Adele texts me all the time and keeps me in check,” Skepta told ES Magazine in 2016. “She speaks to me about how things are going.”

That same year, Adele expressed her love for Skepta on social media. “Tottenham Boy,” she tweeted with the heart emoji. Skepta responded with “Love you.”

Adele filed for divorce from her husband of seven years, Simon Konecki, in September 2019. Since then, she has “been a lot more social and opened up quite a bit,” adds the source.

Last weekend, she hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time where she showed off her slim figure. During her opening monologue, she joked about her weight loss.

“Because of the travel bans, I had to travel light so I only brought half of me, and this is the half I chose,” said Adele, while revealing that her new album is not quite ready. “My album’s not finished,” she said of the long-awaited follow-up to 2015’s 25.

UPDATE: Adele has responded to reports that she’s dating Skepta. While reflecting on her “SNL” appearance, she seemed to indicate that she’s not in a relationship. “I’m going back to my cave now to be the (single) cat lady that I am!” she wrote in her Instagram post.

And while fans have been patiently waiting for her new album, it likely won’t be dropping until next year. “Peace out til next year,” she added.
