It’s been three years since Ty Dolla $ign released an album, but he has finally set a release date.
The L.A. singer’s long-awaited third studio album Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, formerly titled Dream House, will arrive Oct. 23, he revealed in a tweet.
“I decided to name my third studio album Featuring Ty Dolla $ign because there is truly something for everybody on this album,” said Ty. “It features some of my most talented friends, on some of the best music I’ve made in my career.”
Ty showcases his growth on the follow-up to 2017’s Beach House 3, which has already spawned singles including “Expensive” with Nicki Minaj and “Ego Death” with Kanye West, FKA Twigs, and Skrillex.
On Friday (Oct. 16), he is set to release his new single “By Yourself” featuring Jhené Aiko and Mustard.
While recording the album, he listened to Prince and J Dilla for inspiration. “I listened to a lot of Prince. I listened to a lot of J Dilla,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “I listened to a lot of Jaco Pastorius. A lot of Thundercat, a lot of Skrillex. And my guy James Royo, who produced half of the album with me — just listening to his beats and my beats going back and forth.”
Ty continues to be one of hip-hop and R&B’s most consistent hitmakers, collaborating with artists including SZA (“Hit Different”), Big Sean (“Body Language”), Trey Songz (“On Call”), and YG (“Surgery”).
