“WAP” is on top.
Cardi B’s single featuring Megan Thee Stallion blasts to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 while breaking records in the process.
The Ayo & Keyz-produced track, which was certified gold by the RIAA in its first week, launches with 93 million U.S. streams, the biggest ever for a song in its first week of release. The previous record was held by Ariana Grande’s “7 Rings” (85.3 million). “WAP” also sold 125,000 downloads, the highest sales in a single week since Taylor Swift’s “Me!” in May 2019.
Additionally, “WAP” has the highest streaming first week of 2020, besting the 77.2 million for Roddy Ricch’s “The Box.”
“WAP” extends Cardi’s record as the female rapper with the most Hot 100 No. 1s. She now has four leaders on the chart including “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” “I Like It” with Bad Bunny & J Balvin, and Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You.”
Megan Thee Stallion earns her second No. 1 following “Savage” featuring Beyoncé, which topped the chart in May.
Along with the song, Cardi and Megan released a star-studded video featuring an all-female cast including Kylie Jenner, Normani, and Rosalía. The Colin Tilley-directed clip has over 100 million views on YouTube, earning the biggest debut week for an all-female hip-hop collaboration of 2020.
